Nairobi Weather

The Nairobi weather avoids the extreme heat of the coastal areas, because of its elevation. From June to October, the dry season has highs around 21 C (70 F) and lows of about 10 C (50 F). In December, temperatures are a few degrees warmer. The rainy season runs from November to May, but April and May receive the most rainfall.

Heavy rainfall creates the best grassland for the wildebeest migration, but also makes the worst roads for safari vehicles. Safari groups will find every type of wildlife all year long in Kenya, so you don’t have to plan your Nairobi visit to coincide with the wildebeest migration.

Population Pressure on Nairobi National Park

Nairobi has grown rapidly, because people are moving in from rural areas. The population is putting pressure on the borders of Nairobi National Park. So, wildlife constantly wander into the city. The Kenya Wildlife Service patrols the borders for broken fences. In addition, the patrols respond to reports of lions and hyenas entering the city. However, tourists in safari vehicles are safe from wild animals in Kenya.

Visit Nairobi – Introduction

Nairobi is the main entry point for tourism to Kenya and the starting point for safaris. The city is the capital and largest city in Kenya. The population is more than 3 million. The British established Nairobi in 1899. The city of Nairobi is on the eastern edge of the Rift Valley at an elevation 1,600 m (5,000 ft).

Nairobi Terrorist Attacks

Nairobi terrorist attacks have made Kenya a less safe choice than to Visit Tanzania. Al Qaeda bombed the US Embassy in Nairobi in 1998. In 2019 terrorists killed several people at a downtown Nairobi hotel. Refugee camps and border skirmishes with Somalia are common in the northeast of Kenya, but this has not affected safari tourism in the south.
