Mexico (Estados Unidos Mexicanos) is a country of more than 102 million people.  It is bordered on the north by the United States and to the south by Belize and Guatemala.  The Caribbean and the Pacific form its eastern and western boundaries.  Spain took the country from the Aztecs in the 1500s and gained independence from Spain in the 1800s.  Today it is mainly a Spanish speaking country, though there are many native dialects too.  Mexico has strong influences from Aztec, Maya and several other civilizations.  The ruins of Teotihuacan near Mexico City and Chichen Itza near Cancun are evidence of its amazing pre-history.
