Visit Palm Springs – Aerial Tramway

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway – year round access to the 8,500 foot level of San Jacinto National Park. You start from the valley floor at 2,600 feet in elevation. Have dinner and look down on the lights of the city. Hike in the summer, cross country ski in the winter and camp year round.

Palm Springs Weather

Comfortable winter weather is what draws people to Palm Springs. Palm Springs weather has average highs from December through February of about 72 F (23 C) and average lows are 48 F (9 C). From May through September the average highs exceed 100 F (40 C) and the “snowbirds” head back home to Canada. The shape of the Coachella Valley intermittently funnels high winds through the city, especially in spring.

Get to Palm Springs

Palm Springs Airport (PSP) is only a few minutes from downtown Palm Springs. A rental car is probably the best option once you get to Palm Springs. You will need a car to reach the Palm Springs Aerial Tram, Joshua Tree National Park and Indian Canyon Trails.

Visit Palm Springs – Background

Palm Springs is a California resort area in a desert valley about 2 hours east of Los Angeles. About 50,000 people live in Palm Springs. The town is popular with the wealthy and famous who live in the “Movie Colony”. Canadian snowbirds avoiding Canadian winters are also common here. Palm Springs is a popular spring break location too. The city started as a stage coach station in 1862. Today Palm Springs has over 90 golf courses, including ones designed by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. Gated communities are common and many are associated with golf courses. Settlement has spread along the Coachella Valley to nearby communities including Cathedral City, Indian Wells, Palm Desert, Thousand Palms, La Quinta and Indio.
